Step-by-step: rinse the mud before the ride home
1. Start with clean water
Fill an open container with clean water at a temperature that is comfortable for your dog. Test the water before spraying. If the water source is questionable, do not use it for rinsing around sensitive skin or wounds.
2. Put the pump in the open container
Follow the manufacturer instructions for the portable shower. With a submersible pump, keep the intake covered by water so the pump can draw consistently.
3. Rinse from the least dirty areas toward the mud
Start with a gentle spray and work around paws, lower legs and dirty coat areas. Keep spray away from the eyes, inside the ears and open wounds. Heavy caked material may need more direct cleaning than a quick rinse.
4. Inspect the paws
Check between the toes and around the pads. A rinse is useful for loose mud and visible residue, but anything lodged between paw pads still needs direct attention.
5. Dry before loading the dog
