Short answer: Buy a portable shower pump by itself if you already own a suitable clean, open bucket or reservoir. Buy a pump-and-reservoir system if you want one order that includes both the rechargeable shower and a portable water source.
For Pawdelou’s current Trail Rinse products, the difference is C$10: the pump alone is C$79.99, while the complete Trail Rinse System is C$89.99 and includes the orange 20 L collapsible reservoir.
Trail Rinse pump vs Trail Rinse System
| Option | What is included | Best for | Price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Trail Rinse pump | Orange 6000 mAh pump, hose, shower head and supplier-listed hanging hook. No water container. | People who already own a suitable open bucket or reservoir. | C$79.99 |
| Trail Rinse System | The same orange 6000 mAh portable shower plus an orange 20 L collapsible reservoir. | People who want a complete hose-free rinse station for the car, trailhead, beach or campsite. | C$89.99 |
The System costs C$19.99 less than buying the C$79.99 pump and C$29.99 reservoir separately.
Choose the pump only when
- You already carry a stable open water container.
- You want the lower purchase price.
- You prefer to use a container sized for your own vehicle or routine.
- You understand that the pump does not connect itself to a pressurized outdoor tap.
Choose the complete System when
- You need both the shower and a portable water source.
- You want a collapsible reservoir that takes less storage space when empty.
- You rinse at trailheads, campsites, beaches or parking areas without a garden hose.
- You would otherwise buy the pump and 20 L reservoir separately.
What both options do
Both options use the same orange Full Screen 6000 pump selected by Pawdelou. The pump draws clean water from an open container and sends it through the hose and handheld shower head. Supplier information describes a 6000 mAh battery, battery-status and water-temperature readouts, and focused-spray and rain-style output.
The pump moves water; it does not heat it. Add clean water at a comfortable temperature and test it before spraying your dog. Display behaviour and spray performance are supplier-described and have not yet been independently sample-tested by Pawdelou.
What the 20 L reservoir changes
The reservoir solves the water-source problem. It holds up to 20 L when open and collapses for storage between trips. The right amount of water for a rinse varies with dog size, coat, the amount of mud and how much of the dog needs cleaning, so Pawdelou does not promise a fixed number of rinses per fill.
Questions buyers ask
Does either option need a garden hose?
No. The pump draws from an open water container. The pump-only option requires you to provide that container; the System includes one.
Does either option heat water?
No. The pump moves water but does not heat it.
Can the System arrive in two parcels?
Yes. The pump and reservoir are separate supplier items and may arrive separately. Typical delivery is 8–10 days, and tracking is provided when available.
Can I buy the reservoir later?
Yes. The 20 L Trail Reservoir is also sold separately.
Which option should most first-time buyers choose?
If you do not already have a suitable container, the complete System is the more straightforward choice. It adds the 20 L reservoir for C$10 more than the pump-only price.
How to use either setup safely
- Fill a stable open container with clean water at a comfortable temperature.
- Place the pump in the water and connect the hose and shower head.
- Start gently and rinse visible mud from paws, lower legs and dirty coat areas.
- Keep spray away from eyes, inside the ears and open wounds.
- Never run the pump dry. Empty, rinse and dry all components before storage.

Compare the alternatives before buying
| Method | Best fit | Main trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Towel or damp cloth | Water and light surface dirt | Does not rinse packed mud from several areas |
| Bottle-top rinse attachment | Small targeted rinses at low cost | Limited water and no powered continuous flow |
| Paw cleaner cup | One paw at a time when the dog accepts insertion | Does not rinse legs, belly or coat |
| Garden-hose sprayer | Cleanup where an outdoor tap is available | Not useful at a hose-free trailhead or parking area |
| Portable pump only | Powered rinse when you already own a container | The water source is still your responsibility |
| Pump plus reservoir | One portable setup when no suitable container is available | Higher purchase price and filled-water weight |
Choose based on the mess and where cleanup happens. Start with the simplest method that can do the job safely.
